Bangalore Royal Challengers v Rajasthan Royals at Bangalore

BRC v RR, IPL Match 12, Bangalore: Watson, Smith star in Rajasthan victory

Shane Watson re-emphasised his utility to the Rajasthan Royals team as he scored a pugnacious 61 not out and was instrumental in the Jaipur team beating Bangalore Royal Challengers by seven wickets at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on Saturday.
Watson was involved in a match-winning 104-run partnership with Graeme Smith (49), after Yusuf Pathan (21) provided the early impetus. Not one of the Bangalore bowlers had anything to offer and they were done in as they had a very poor score to defend.
As the match began, Rajasthan dominated proceedings, helped by an attacking shot too many from the batsmen. Shane Watson got rid of the openers. Dravid was greeted with a short ball first-up, and for a moment it seemed the Bangalore captain had struck a six, but the ball landed safely in the hands of Ravindra Jadeja at long leg. Shivnarine Chanderpaul tried to pull one, but the ball took the top edge and found third man. Sohail Tanvir. Taylor carted Munaf Patel over midwicket for four, and bettered that with a six next ball. The Bangalore batsmen seemed to be proving a point. But just when they looked in command, Kallis stepped out against Siddharth Trivedi, and the pull went straight to Munaf, stationed on the leg-side boundary. That should have been the cue for Taylor to rein in his attacking instincts, but he too threw it away with another pull shot which found Graeme Smith.
Bangalore were struggling to 65 for 4, and that soon became 77 for 5. Virat Kohli, India’s Under-19 captain, was fortunate, unlike his team-mates, while trying to clear the boundary. Jadeja at midwicket held on splendidly to the ball that was sailing over his head, but while trying to gain control, he hit the ground and just touched the advertisement hoardings, making it a six instead. Warne brought himself on only in the 12th over. At 78 for 6, it was left to Praveen Kumar, the India allrounder, to salvage the situation. Praveen relied on big hits to boost the total. He did it with success, and sometimes with a bit of luck. He went on to score 34.

BRC v RR, IPL Match 12, Bangalore: Buoyant Rajasthan Royals take on Royal Challengers

The Shane Warne-led Rajasthan Royals, with two wins, have the edge over Bangalore Royal Challengers in the Twenty-20 Indian Premier League(IPL) tie at Bangalore.
The thrilling last over victory over Deccan Chargers, Hyderabad, yesterday has boosted the confidence of the Jaipur team. But the local team has also had a convincing win against a b Mumbai Indians. This win had come after the bad loss in the league opener against Kolkata Knight Riders. Dravid's men are now bolstered with the arrival of Pakistani hard hitter Misbah-ul-Haq, who joined the team yesterday.
With the eight teams in the league finally coming to grips of the T20 format's intensity with the league entering the second week, a thrilling run chase is on the cards. The wicket, in the first game, offers good bounce and New Zealand wicket keeper Brendon McCullum's heroics notwithstanding, the bowlers had a satisfying day. Especially after the break, the pitch offered good bounce and movement due to dew effect and hastened fall of the Bangalore's innings.
Much will be expected from the Challengers by the home fans who were disappointed over their team capitulating to a paltry 82, chasing a stiff target against Kolkata, in the first game. Dravid will have to ensure that his team earns the second win to be in the hunt for a position at the top. The team has to pull up its socks not only to win but also improve its poor run rate, which is the lowest among the eight teams.
