Deccan Chargers won by seven wickets against Chennai Super Kings in the 26th Indian Premier League (IPL) match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday. Chasing a target of 145 runs, the Hyderabad team put up a total of 148 runs for the loss of three wickets with two overs remaining.
Chargers' stand-in skipper Adam Gilchrist scored a quick-fire 54 off 36 balls that included seven boundaries and two sixes. Gilchrist was rightly adjudged Man of the Match. Scott Styris on 36* runs and Shahid Afridi on 20* runs remained unbeaten.
For Super Kings, Manpreet Gony and Albie Morkel took a wicket apiece.
Earlier, put in to bat first by Chargers, Mahendra Singh Doni-led Chennai scored 144 for seven against the visitors. Suresh Raina (32), Morkel (29 not out) and Dhoni (23) were the main contributors with the bat.
For Chargers, RP Singh took two wickets giving just 12 runs.
With this win, the Deccan Chargers are now placed sixth in the standings. Out of the seven matches played so far, the Hyderabad team have won two and lost five.
