Chennai Super Kings v Mumbai Indians at Chennai

CSK v MI, IPL Match 8, Chennai: Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by six runs

Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by six runs in the eighth match of the Indian Premier League at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Matthew Hayden scored 81 off just 46 runs to help Chennai Super Kings put up a mammoth 208 for the loss of five wickets against Mumbai Indians.
Earlier, Matthew Hayden also featured in a century stand with Suresh Raina (53) as Chennai Super Kings amassed a big total against the Mumbai Indians. With a 46-ball knock that was studded with 12 fours and two sixes, Hayden once again proved the thorn in the flesh for Harbhajan Singh, who led the Mumbai side in absence of their regular captain Sachin Tendulkar, down with a groin injury.
Harbhajan, finally, found some solace when his direct throw caught Hayden short of ground towards the end of the innings. Put into bat, the Chennai Super Kings got off to a rollicking start with Parthiv Patel (14) and Hayden putting on 34 runs in the first three overs before Ashish Nehra applied the brake.
Nehra had Parthiv caught behind and five runs later, Mike Hussey (5) too was back in the hut after dragging a Dhaval Kulkarni delivery onto his stumps.
In Raina, Hayden found an able ally and the duo scored at a brisk rate. Raina was fluent as he smote Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh and Abhishek Nayar over the ropes to keep pace with Hayden, who was his aggressive self at the other end as they put on a century stand. The duo put on 104 runs in about 10 overs before Raina holed out to Bravo to depart after a 37-ball knock that included three sixes and as many boundaries.
Hayden, however, maintained the momentum and though Harbhajan pressed into service as many as eight bowlers, including himself, runs came thick and fast. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (30) chipped in with a 16-ball cameo to take the side past the 200-mark.

CSK v MI, IPL Match 8, Chennai: Super Kings ready to seek win against Mumbai Indians

MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings will be aiming for their second successive victory when they will take on Mumbai Indians, once again without Sachin Tendulkar, in the IPL match at Chennai on Wednesday.
Both teams have international stars capable of winning a match on their own but Dhoni was confident about keeping their slate clean. With some solid batting, the Chennai team had posted a 12-run an over average in their first match against Kings XI Punjab on Saturday, which they won by 33 runs.
But their not so effective bowling in the absence of new ball specialists Makhaya Ntini and Albie Morkel, who are yet to join the team, makes them a tad vulnerable. The Mumbai team, on the other hand, would be gunning for their first win in the tournament after losing to Rahul Dravid-led Bangalore Royal Challengers on Sunday. The team will once again be without Tendulkar, who is recovering from a groin injury and would be led by Harbhajan Singh.
It will be interesting to see Harbhajan and Matthew Hayden facing each other after their acrimonious face-off during India's tour of Australia earlier this year. Hayden had predicted that the competition would witness scores in excess of 200 an innings and the Chepauk wicket looks set to witness a run-feast.
The Mumbai team is no less b with Sanath Jayasuriya, Dominic Thornely, Robin Uthappa and Shaun Pollock forming the top order in batting. The twin spin attack of Harbhajan and Jayasuriya could pose a lot of problems to the hosts' batsmen.
The organisers are expecting a packed stadium and have arranged an entertainment package for the fans with stars like well known drummer Siva Mani to roll his fingers on the musical instruments of different types, besides its brand ambassadors -- actors Vijay and Nayantara -- leading an ensemble of artists from the Kollywood.
