Deccan Chargers v Bangalore Royal Challengers at Hyderabad

BRC v DC, IPL Match 21, Hyderabad: Royal challengers edge out Deccan Chargers by 3 runs

Excellent bowling from leading pacers helped Bangalore Royal Challengers pull off an exciting three-run win over Deccan Chargers, Hyderabad, in the DLF-Indian Premier League played at Bangalore today.
Chasing a modest 157 to win, Chargers were restricted for 153 for six with Royal Challengers' fast bowlers Dale Steyn, Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar lifting the local team needing a win desperately. Half centuries by consistent Rohit Sharma (57) and captain V V S Laxman (52) was not enough as visitors were rattled by Praveen who took the wickets of Laxman, Herschelle Gibbs and dangerman Shahid Afridi. Praveen Kumar was declared man of the match.
Earlier, useful contributions from Wasim Jaffer (44) and under-19 captain Virat Kohli (38), who added a purposeful 72 for the third wicket, helped the hosts reach a moderate 156, and their bowlers using the seaming conditions well, rattled the Chargers and once Rohit Sharma departed, caught Jaffer off Jacques Kallis, the Chargers charge was scuttled. With this win Royal Challengers registered their second win in the League having played six matches. Deccan Chargers, the other 'wooden spoonists' in the eight-team league, have only one win from equal number of matches to take the lost spot in the league. Kohli, who joined Jaffer, continued his good form sending the Deccan bowlers to all corners in his brief stay.
Skipper Rahul Dravid extended the ante for the locals with a compact innings of 26 backed with some lusty cheers in the Bangalore stadium. He hit two huge sixes in his 21-run essay. In the 19th over of the match, Chargers' bowler Scott Stryis and Praveen Kumar came face to face with some argument for blocking former while fielding.
Umpire Billy Doctrove pacified both the players. However, it did not affect the match.
