RR v CSK, Match 22: Chennai beats Rajasthan by 38 runs

Suresh Raina hit a 55-ball 98 and Laxmi Balaji took 4-21 to lead the Chennai Super Kings over the Rajasthan Royals by 38 runs in the Indian Premier League on Thursday.
Raina cracked 10 boundaries and five sixes for Chennai to total 164-5. Rajasthan struggled and was all out for 126 in 19.3 overs. Kamran Khan did not bat after he was injured while fielding. Chennai's second win replaced Rajasthan in fifth place on the table. Man-of-the-match Raina said he hoped the win would bring Chennai's campaign back on track.

DD v DC, Match 21: Dilshan stars for Daredevils

An unbeaten half-century from Tillakaratne Dilshan helped the Delhi Daredevils inflict a first Indian Premier League defeat of the season on the Deccan Chargers with a comfortable six-wicket victory in Pretoria.
The Sri Lanka batsman paced his innings superbly and was given good support from Dinesh Karthik (41) to help Delhi easily chase down their 149-run target with more than an over to spare.
Their performance came after Dirk Nannes and Ashish Nehra had earlier claimed two wickets apiece to restrict the table-topping Chargers, who had Dwayne Smith (48) to thank for helping them reach a competitive total.
DD v DC, Match 21: Delhi Daredevils 150-4 (18.4 ov) beat Deccan Chargers 148-9 (20.0 ov) by 6 wickets

MI v KXP, Match 20: Punjab edge low-scoring thriller

Kings XI Punjab handed Mumbai Indians their third defeat in five matches by defending a low total and eventually scoring a three-run win in a thrilling Indian Premier League match in Durban.
Kumar Sangakkara had helped himself to an unbeaten 45 (44 deliveries), showing superb temperament in the face of a strong bowling from the Indians as the Kings XI made a meagre 119 for eight, batting first.
Jean-Paul Duminy had kept Mumbai in the hunt with a superbly crafted 59, but his departure in the final over, bowled by Yusuf Abdulla, helped Kings XI run out winners.
MI v KXP, Match 20: Kings XI Punjab 119-8 (20.0 ov) beat Mumbai Indians 116-7 (20.0 ov) by 3 runs

KKR v RCB, Match 19: Bangalore clinch last-over thriller

Mark Boucher hit an unbeaten 25 off 13 balls as Bangalore Royal Challengers posted an exciting five-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League at Durban on Wednesday.
Kevin Pietersen's Bangalore needed 10 in the last over to achieve a 140-run target before Boucher smashed spinner Chris Gayle's penultimate delivery for a winning four to help his team register the second victory in six matches. Kolkata have so far won only one of their six games.
Teenager Shreevats Goswami also played a big role in Bangalore's victory, top-scoring with 43. The 19-year-old opener hit six fours in his 46-ball knock. Australian spinner Brad Hodge put pressure on Bangalore with three wickets, but South African wicket-keeper Boucher batted sensibly in the crucial last over to steer his team home. He was named man of the match.
KKR v RCB, Match 19: Royal Challengers Bangalore 143-5 (19.5 ov) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 139-6 (20.0 ov) by 5 wickets

DD v RR, Match 18: Undefeated Pathan powers Rajasthan to IPL victory

Yusuf Pathan clobbered an unbeaten half-century as the Rajasthan Royals got their stuttering campaign back on course by defeating the Delhi Daredevils by five wickets in an Indian Premier League fixture at the Centurion.
AB de Villiers' half-century was the highlight off a relatively unspectacular Daredevils batting card, his knock helping Virender Sehwag's side finish with an unflattering 143 for seven. Leg-spinner Amit Mishra then kept the Daredevils in with a chance as he wrecked the Royals' middle-order with three quick wickets, the Royals crashing to 64 for five, but Smith played a steady hand and Yusuf's whirlwind knock eventually turned the game the Royals' way.
Rajasthan needed 48 off the last five overs, but fluent batting from Smith (unbeaten on 44) and Pathan (62 from 30 deliveries) kept the run rate from burgeoning. Yusuf then clobbered Mishra for a six and a four off consecutive deliveries in the leg-spinner's final over - in which he conceded 18 runs - as the Royals were left needing less than a run a ball from the last three overs.
Yusuf eventually finished off the game with a boundary, helping his side over the line with 1.3 overs to spare.
DD v RR, Match 18: Rajasthan Royals 147-5 (18.3 ov) beat Delhi Daredevils 143-7 (20 ov) by 5 wickets

KKR v MI, Match 17: Tendulkar, Jayasuriya win it for Mumbai

Senior pros Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya produced vintage strokeplay to give Mumbai Indians a key victory in the Indian Premier League on Monday.
The ageing duo hammered 127 for the first wicket from just 12.2 overs as Mumbai scored 187-6 in 20 overs after electing to take first strike and then bowled out Kolkata Knight Riders for 95 in 15.2 overs. The massive 92-run victory took Mumbai's tally to five points from four matches, putting them in third place behind leaders Deccan Chargers (eight points) and Delhi Daredevils (six).
Tendulkar, the world's leading Test and one-day batsman who has voluntarily opted out of India's Twenty20 squad, smashed a brilliant 68 off 45 balls.
Jayasuriya, who turns 40 in June, hammered 52 off 32 balls with two fours and four sixes as the veterans turned the clock back in a breathtaking display of attacking batting. Kolkata's chase faltered early when skipper Brendon McCullum was dismissed by Lasith Malinga in the second over and West Indian captain Chris Gayle fell to team-mate Dwayne Bravo in the third.
Brad Hodge (24) and Sourav Ganguly (34) were the chief contributors to Kolkata's meagre total as Lasith Malinga and Abhishek Nayar scalped three wickets each.
KKR v MI, Match 17: Mumbai Indians 187-6 (20.0 ov) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 95 (15.2 ov) by 92 runs

CSK v DC, Match 16: Gibbs powers Deccan to fourth straight win

Herschelle Gibbs turned the praise on to captain Adam Gilchrist after hitting an unbeaten 69 to see the unbeaten Deccan Chargers to a six-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings.
While Gibbs carried his bat and smashed the final-over six that effectively settled the contest, he put the focus on Gilchrist's 44 off 19 balls as the contribution that set up Deccan for victory.
Gilchrist himself looked at the whole team effort, not least the bowlers who restricted Chennai to 165 for six after a strong start of their own.
CSK v DC, Match 16: Deccan Chargers 169-4 (19.3 ov) beat Chennai Super Kings 165-6 (20.0 ov) by 6 wickets

RR v KXP, Match 15: Kings XI Punjab beat Rajasthan Royals by 27 runs

Kumar Sangakkara hit a half-century to help set the Kings XI Punjab on their way to a 27-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals in Cape Town on Sunday.
The Sri Lanka star was the key man notching up a patient 60 as his side set the defending Indian Premier League champions 140 for victory.
In response, the Royals never got going with Yusuf Abdullah taking three wickets to help restrict the opposition to 112 for seven, despite a valiant attempt from Ravindra Jadeja (37) and Shane Warne (34 not out).

DD v RCB, Match 14: Delhi Daredevils beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets

Tillakaratne Dilshan smashed a quickfire half-century to power Delhi Daredevils to a six-wicket win over Bangalore Royal Challengers in the Indian Premier League on Sunday.
The Sri Lankan cracked two sixes and five fours in his 47-ball 67 not out as Delhi achieved a 150-run target with four balls to spare for their third win in as many matches. Kevin Pietersen-led Bangalore have so far posted just one victory in five matches.
Dilshan steadied the innings after the early dismissals of openers Virender Sehwag (seven) and Gautam Gambhir (16). He put on 44 for the unfinished fifth wicket off just 22 balls with Mithun Manhas (23 not out). The Sri Lankan reached his second half-century of the tournament in style, hoisting South African Jacques Kallis for a six.
AB de Villiers was the other notable contributor for Delhi with 21. Bangalore's chances of setting a stiff target receded when well-set Pietersen (37) was bowled attempting a switch-hit off New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori in the 10th over.
Pietersen, who smashed two sixes in his 25-ball knock, put on 62 for the third wicket with New Zealander Ross Taylor (31) after openers Kallis and Robin Uthappa were dismissed in the opening two overs. South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher hit two sixes in his 28-ball 36 and added 61 for the fifth wicket with Indian Virat Kohli (22).
DD v RCB, Match 14: Delhi Daredevils 153-4 (19.2 ov) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 149-7 (20 ov) by 6 wickets

KKR v CSK, Match 13: Rain washes out Kolkata-Chennai match

Steady rain caused the abandonment of the Indian Premier League match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders without a ball bowled at Newlands.
It was the second match to be washed out in eight days during the tournament which was switched at short notice from India to South Africa. Rain fell throughout most of the day and it never seemed likely that play would get under way.
But players and a handful of spectators were kept waiting for two hours 45 minutes after the scheduled start before the umpires decided that it would not be possible to play even the minimum number of five overs a side.
KKR v CSK, Match 13: Match called off due to rain

DC v MI, Match 12: Deccan hero Ojha puts Mumbai in a spin

A spinning masterclass from Pragyan Ojha and disciplined back-up from Venugopal Rao ensured Deccan Chargers consolidated their position at the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) table with a 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians at Durban on Saturday.
Chasing 169, Mumbai looked destined for victory when they entered the final 10 overs of their innings needing 85 to win with nine wickets in hand and star batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and JP Duminy at the crease. But Ojha's 3-21 swung the match as he had Tendulkar caught at short extra cover by Herschelle Gibbs for 36, then removed Shikhar Dhawan and Duminy (47) in consecutive overs.
Fellow spinner Rao squeezed the batsmen at the other end, allowing just 21 runs from his first three overs as Mumbai managed a meagre 24 runs in the five overs after the 'strategy break'. Dwayne Bravo and Harbhajan Singh led spirited resistance, but when Fidel Edwards removed fellow West Indian Bravo for 21, Mumbai's fate was sealed and they ended their innings on 156-7.
An opening stand of 63 between Adam Gilchrist and Gibbs set Chargers up for a big total after they won the toss and elected to bat under sunny Kingsmead skies. Even after Gilchrist had fallen for 35 to the bowling of Bravo, Gibbs continued the assault on Mumbai's bowlers with Dwayne Smith as Deccan reached 124-1 in the 13th over.
But when Smith was bowled by Sanath Jayasuriya for 35, his dismissal instigated a collapse and none of the batsmen who followed reached double figures. Top scorer Gibbs was run out for a feisty 58 as Deccan made 168-8 in 20 overs.

KXP v RCB, Match 11: Bopara guides Punjab to first victory

Ravi Bopara smashed 84 off 59 balls Friday to lead Kings XI Punjab to a seven-wicket win over Bangalore Royal Challengers in the Indian Premier League.
After Bangalore won the toss and elected to bat to total 168-9, Punjab reached 173-3 with an over to spare with Bopara putting on stands of 52 with Karan Goel (19), 40 with Kumar Sangakkara (26) and 66 with captain Yuvraj Singh (30 not out) at Kingsmead. Bopara hit five sixes and four boundaries to steer Punjab its first win in the IPL, hitting 49 runs from overs 15, 16 and 17.
Earlier, left-arm seamers Yusuf Abdulla (4-31) and Irfan Pathan (3-35) helped restrict Bangalore. Jacques Kallis scored 62, while Ross Taylor collected 35 and Jesse Ryder 32. Kallis smashed five boundaries and two sixes in 46 balls and shared in a 61-run stand with Taylor. Abdulla dismissed Ryder, Pietersen two deliveries later for 0, Kallis and Taylor.
Pathan got out Robin Uthappa in the first over for 0, then bagged the wickets of Praveen Kumar for 13 and Pankaj Singh for 0.

RR v KKR, Match 10: Rajastan Royals beat Knight Riders in super over

Newlands Stadium witnessed intense drama as Rajasthan Royals pipped Kolkata Knight Riders via 'Super Over' in an edge-of-the-seat thriller in the Indian Premier League at Cape Town.
Put into bat, Rajasthan Royals had earlier managed 150 for six, a total they owed largely to Yusuf Pathan (42) even though it was Abhishek Raut (21 not out) who provided the late charge for them. Chasing a victory target of 151, Chris Gayle (41) sizzled at the top while Sourav Ganguly (46) too shone as the Knight Riders managed exactly 150 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.
In the 'Super Over', Knight Riders managed 15 runs off Kamran Khan's over with Chris Gayle scoring 13 off it before being dismissed in the final ball. In reply, Rajasthan Royals scored 18 off Ajantha Mendis' first four balls with Yusuf Pathan hitting 6,2,6 and 4 to seal the win.

DD v CSK, Match 9: De Villiers ton gives Daredevils thrilling IPL win

AB de Villiers won the battle of the master blasters against Matthew Hayden on Thursday to give Delhi Daredevils a nine-run win over Chennai Super Kings in an Indian Premier League thriller.
South African De Villiers rode his luck to finish unbeaten on 105 as Delhi made 189-5 in their 20 overs and Australian Hayden hit 57 as he triggered a heroic run chase that ended at 180-9 after a late collapse at Kingsmead.
Victory maintained the 100 percent record of Delhi while Chennai suffered their second loss in three matches in a tournament switched to South Africa because a clash with Indian general elections created security concerns.
Hayden made a quickfire 57 in a reply that was on track until former England skipper Andrew Flintoff was caught by substitute David Warner to leave Chennai on 156-5 and two last-over run-outs settled the outcome.
DD v CSK, Match 9: Delhi Daredevils 189-5 (20 ov) beat Chennai Super Kings 180-9 (20 ov) by 9 runs

Deccan, after winning the toss and opting to bat, scored 184-6 off of its 20 overs. Gilchrist, opening the batting, struck a blistering 71 runs off just 45 balls - including six fours and five sixes. Rohit Sharma was the next highest scorer for Deccan, scoring 52 off 30, also belting five sixes.
In reply, Bangalore made a valiant effort after losing its first three wickets for just 38 runs, but finished on 160-8. Scott Styris was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3-32 off his four overs for Deccan, while R.P. Singh took 2-17.

MI v RR, Match 7: Match called off due to rain

Both the teams were awarded a point each and with it Mumbai Indians have moved at the top of the table with three points from two matches.

KKR v KXP, Match 6: Kolkata Knight Riders beat Kings XI Punjab by 11 runs

Chris Gayle played a belligerent innings as the Kolkata Knight Riders secured an 11-run win on the Duckworth/Lewis method over Kings XI Punjab in a rain-affected Indian Premier League match at Kingsmead.
Gayle, dropped on two and again on 32, briefly dispersed gloomy weather conditions with an unbeaten 44 off only 26 deliveries before rain had the final say. The Kings XI had made 158 for six and Kolkata had reached 79 for one in 9.2 overs when their innings ended prematurely.
Gayle was dropped on two by Tarun Goel off Yusuf Abdulla in only the second over and again by wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara off Piyush Chawla when on 32. By the time the rain came down, Gayle had smashed four sixes and two boundaries while putting on 57 for the opening wicket with skipper Brendon McCullum (21).

Matthew Hayden hit 65 off 35 balls and man-of-the-match Muttiah Muralitharan claimed 3-11 on Monday to lead the Chennai Super Kings to a 92-run victory over the Bangalore Royal Challengers in the Indian Premier League.
Set a daunting target of 180, Bangalore slumped to 87 all out after Hayden's aggressive stroke play - which included nine fours and two sixes - put Chennai in charge. Bowling beautifully on a turning pitch, the Sri Lankan spin master had Robin Uthappa (20) stumped by wicketkeeper Dhoni, trapped Bangalore captain Kevin Pietersen leg before for a first-ball duck and had Rajesh Bishnoi (0) caught by Lakshmipathy Balaji.

KKR v DC, Match 4: Singh grabs four in Deccan Chargers victory

Fast bowler RP Singh took four wickets as the Deccan Chargers gained a comfortable eight-wicket win over the Kolkata Knight Riders in their Indian Premier League crown at Newlands Sunday.
Singh took four for 22 as Kolkata struggled to 101 all out on a lively pitch. The Chargers needed only 13.1 overs to clinch their win, with Herschelle Gibbs hitting 43 not out and Rohit Sharma 36 not out.
It was an encouraging performance by the Deccan side, who finished last of the eight teams in 2008.

Delhi Daredevils captain Virender Sehwag finished the match with a six over long on to remain unbeaten on 38 that came off 16 balls with the help of 3 sixes and 4 fours, while his opening partner Gautam Gambhir smashed 2 fours to score 15 runs off 13 balls.
DD v KXP, Match 3: Delhi Daredevils 58-0 (4.5 ovs) beat Kings XI Punjab 104-7 (12.0 ovs) by 10 wickets (D/L)

RR v RCB, Match 2: Warnie's Jaipur face Pietersen's Royal Challengers

Hampshire mates Shane Warne and Kevin Pietersen share goes back a long way, but nothing can quite suppress the fierce competitor that resides in each of them.
The duel between defending champions Team Jaipur and Royal Challengers may well come to be decided by a fierce face-off between the two pals. While Warne's Jaipur have a reputation to defend, Pietersen, taking over the reins from Rahul Dravid and available only for the first couple of weeks, will want to make an impression right away. Royal Challengers, the ultimate under-achievers of the inaugural edition, may well come up with something special this time around.

MI v CSS, Match 1: Sachin's Mumbai take on Dhoni's Chennai

Dhoni, leading Team Chennai, has to face the wrath of the Little Master, when they take on Mumbai Indians in the opener of IPL 2 in Cape Town.
What makes it all the more interesting is the fact that Tendulkar has already announced that he won't play international T20 cricket while Dhoni had proved himself as a skipper for the first time in South Africa two years back, leading India to the World T20 triumph. T20 is easily Dhoni's bastion and if Tendulkar can inspire his team to a win against Team Chennai, the Little Master can afford a quiet smile of satisfaction.
And Tendulkar has got all the ammunition in the world to turn the heat on last year's runners-up. A supreme opening partner in Sanath Jayasuriya, a solid middle-order led by the stylish South African batsman JP Duminy, and a decent pace-attack led by the in-form Zaheer Khan. All that has created a buzz around the Mumbai Indians.

Pak players want to take part in IPL

Pakistani players have expressed their desire to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the tournament’s shift from India.
According to The News, some players have approached the IPL management through e-mails, but have not received any reply. It is, however, highly unlikely that IPL franchises would recall Pakistan players, as they had earlier refused to play in the league when it was being held in India following a call from their government. Players have now threatened to take the IPL to court if they are not included in the league’s second season.
Sources said the players have demanded that they be included in the tournament as it is now being held in South Africa. Players are demanding that they be paid for the entire duration of their three year contract although they only served one year.
Earlier, captain Younis Khan had also threatened to sue the cash rich league. Several star players like Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, and Salman Butt featured in the IPL’s inaugural season last year.

RR v CSK, IPL Final, Mumbai: Rajasthan win inaugural IPL

Yusuf Pathan inspired Rajasthan Royals to a three-wicket defeat of Chennai Super Kings in a thrilling Indian Premier League final on Sunday.
He took three wickets to reduce Chennai, who lost the toss and were put into bat, to 163 for five, and then smashed 56 - including four sixes and three fours - in a 39-ball innings. Needing eight runs off the final over, Shane Warne (nine not out) and Sohail Tanvir (nine no) kept their cool to reach the target, with the latter grabbing the one run needed for victory off the final ball of the match.
The Royals suffered a double blow as in the same over Kamran Akmal (six) went for a suicidal single after nudging to mid-on and was run out by Makhaya Ntini's direct hit. Pathan proved he was just as capable with the bat as with the ball, although he was lucky to be dropped by Raina in the 11th over on 13. Raina's error proved costly as Pathan went on to smash Muttiah Muralitharan for back-to-back sixes.
Shane Watson chipped in with a quickfire 28 off 19 balls but succumbed when he came down the track to Muralitharan but missed and was bowled.
Needing 52 off the last five overs, Pathan launched Lakshmipathy Balaji for 12 off one over and then dished out the same treatment to Muralitharan, hoisting the spinner over midwicket to bring up his half century. But Mohammad Kaif then lobbed Muralitharan to Mahendra Singh Dhoni at cover and Ravindra Jadeja followed next ball when he pulled Morkel straight to Kapugedera at mid-on. Rajasthan's hopes were knocked when Pathan was run out by Raina's superb direct hit but Warne and Tanvir steered the Royals to victory.
Earlier, Chennai openers Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan and Parthiv Patel put on 39 before the former was dismissed in the sixth over. He tried to pull Pathan over deep midwicket but mistimed it and was caught by Jadeja sprinting in from the boundary.
Aiming for a flurry of runs in the final few overs, Raina tried one shot too many and was caught on the long-off boundary by Jadeja off the bowling of Watson, and Chamara Kapugedera did not last long, adding just eight runs before lofting to Asnodkar at long on off Tanvir.
RR v CSK, IPL Final, Mumbai: Rajasthan Royals 164 for 7 in 20.0 ovs beat Chennai Super Kings 163 for 5 in 20.0 ovs by 3 wickets

The Indian Premier League (IPL), created by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and sanctioned by the International Cricket Council, is a Twenty20 competition. It was announced after the BCCI declined permission to allow BCCI-contracted players to play in the Indian Cricket League.

The league is scheduled to start in April 2008 and will last for 44 days, involving 59 matches. The prize money for the league will be around Rs 13 crore (US $3million).
Each team will have a pool of 16 players, of whom four will be international and four from the Under-19 level or from the catchment area where the team is based.
The governing council consists of Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi, Sunil Gavaskar, MAK Pataudi and Ravi Shastri, Rajiv Shukla, Chirayu Amin, Inderjit Singh Bindra and Arun Jaitley.
Although it is going to be a franchise system, some foreign players have already been contracted by the BCCI to play in the IPL.
