Sourav Ganguly’s brilliant unbeaten 86 powered Kolkata Knight Riders to a three-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab at Kolkata on Sunday.
Requiring 15 off the final over, Ganguly did it in style, smashing Irfan Pathan for 15 runs in 4 balls. He flicked the first ball for a six and followed it with a two. His straight six levelled the scores. He picked a single off the fourth ball to seal a stunning win.
Ganguly’s knock came off 53 balls with six fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 162.26. It was one of the best knocks in IPL. Umar Gul’s cameo 24 off 11 balls with one four and three sixes brought his team closer to the target.
Kolkata finished the engagements with 13 points from 14 matches. Earlier, Kings XI Punjab rode on rollicking knocks by Kumar Sangakkara (64) and Shaun Marsh (40) to pile up 174 for 6 in 20 overs.
