The match between the two teams who are at the bottom of the IPL points tally turned out to be a very close one. Banglore won the toss and elected to field. Kolkata lost two early wickets, those of Ganguly (4) and Ghosh (7), both in the same way, caught by Boucher off Vinay Kumar's ball. But McCullum(84) and Hussey(43)stuck together to take their team's total up to decent 173/4.

A strong opening partnership by Ryder (22) and Kallis(32) laid the ground work for the Bangalore innings. Ross Taylor's unbeaten 81 sealed the deal for Bangalore. Taylor had a strike rate of 245.45 when he took 81 runs from only 33 balls. Karthik took 2 wickets for Kolkata, but their fielding was sloppy and they missed a few chances for run outs which may have changed the course of the game. The Royal Challengers reached their target in 19.2 overs at the loss of 4 wickets.

Ross Taylor was named Man of the Match for his unbeaten 81 runs off only 33 balls.
