Gambhir On Low Performance

The Indian top order batsman, Gautam Gambhir, who had come into this year’s Indian Premier League with the purpose of forcing his way back into the Indian national squad through some good performances have had a torrid time in tournament so far. He has played 4 matches for his team Kolkata Knight Riders and all he has managed to score is 1 run. Yes, that sounds unreal for a specialist batsman, but, that’s true.

In the first three matches that Gambhir featured in, he didn’t even open his account. He somehow succeeded in doing that in the 4th match against the Kings XI Punjab, but, only to get dismissed next ball by the right arm medium pacer Sandeep Sharma.

Gambhir has been out of the Indian team since the last one and half years. He used to be a prominent figure in the side once, but, he suddenly lost his form after the ODI World Cup 2011 and got dropped.

The Delhi left hander had a decent domestic season and he was started being considered as one of the candidates for the opening slot for the England tour, but, this horrible run in the initial parts of the IPL has not done any good to his reputation at all.

However, IPL is a very long tournament. Each team plays at least 14 matches and thus, Gambhir will get a lot more opportunities to prove himself, but, at first, he needs to make sure that he spends some time out there in the middle because that’s the only way he can find his lost form. If he keeps getting out on such low scores, there might come a time when he would be forced to step down from the captaincy of KKR.
